German Chancellor Angela Merkel meets with British PM Gordon Brown

German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Brown's official country residence on Friday.

Merkel and Brown planned to hold talks on Saturday ahead of next month's G20 summit, as the leaders try to find answers to the world's financial problems. The two leaders were expected to discuss ways to enforce tougher global financial regulations.

The meeting between Merkel and Brown comes as finance ministers and central bankers from the Group of 20 countries gathered in the UK on Friday, for a two-day meeting to discuss the global economic downturn.

One of the key questions facing the participating nations is whether they should attempt to spend or regulate their way out of the world recession.
