Al-Maliki made the remarks during a visit to Australia. He insisted that Iraq is united against terrorism, saying a withdrawal will not make the country susceptible to further terror attacks. He added that militias and sectarian groups have no place in the new Iraq, where citizens for the first time have a constitution that protects their rights.
