Special Report: Tibet in 50 YearsISLAMABAD, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan said Thursday that it is opposed to any country's interference in China's internal affair through issures concerning Tibet.
"We are opposed to the involvement of any country, organization or individual in inciting Tibet-related issues which we consider as China's internal matter," Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Basit said at a press conference.
Basit said Pakistan strictly adheres to the one-China policy and recognizes Tibet as an inalienable part of China, which is also universally recognized by the international community.
"Pakistan is firmly opposed to any attempts to undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity," Basit said.
"Last year, certain vested interests staged violent protests in Tibet to politicize and subvert the Beijing Olympic Games. Pakistan had condemned the attempt," he said, referring to the March 14 riots in Lhasa, which resulted in the deaths of 18 civilians and huge property losses.
Basit said that Pakistan-China relations are close, time-tested and unaffected by radical changes in the global political environment.
"The two countries have convergence of political interests, especially for the preservation of peace and stability in the region," he said.
