Member Yan Qi: Present solution to employment issue

Employment is one of the big issues the CPPCC members will debate during this year's annual session. One member is not here to debate, but to present her solution to the issue. Our reporter Xu Zhaoqun went to meet Yan Qi, owner of the famous chain restaurant Taoranju. She employs more than seventeen thousand workers, mostly from rural areas around Chongqing.

Despite running a company with an annual turnover of nearly 2 billion yuan, Yan Qi looks much younger than you might expect.

Taoranju is the biggest chain restaurant in Chongqing, and is famous for its Sichuan cuisine. But Yan has something else to be proud of. More than 90 percent of the seventeen thousand workers in the company are farmers or migrant workers from the countryside.

Yan Qi, one CPPCC member said "We keep opening new restaurants - big ones for two hundred people, and small ones, maybe just for two people. No matter how many people are hired, we are doing our bit to get more people back to work."

In fact, many more people than just Taoranju's direct employees are benefiting. Yan and her company have developed a large-scale infrastructure, which provides all the raw materials for the chain restaurants. That creates another fifty thousand job opportunities.
