Political advisors call for efforts to help migrant workers find jobs

Legislators and political advisors across the country are arriving at Beijing to attend China's annual political meeting Usually it's only a time to review and debate policies. But with the current economic difficulties, many are using this opportunity to help boost the economy back home.

Ahead of the annual political meeting, the provincial government is promoting the image of Henan's migrant workers.

Xu Guangchun, Standing Comm. Chair of Henan Provincial People's Congress, said, "The Henan government has put helping the migrant workers finding jobs as their top priority. Preferential policies should be given to the migrant workers to improve their lives."

Hu Juntao, who is a migrant worker from Henan province, said, "I'm impressed by the speech. We migrant workers have never been given so much of attention. "

Others would like the government to do more.

Yuan Shuaipeng, also a migrant worker from Henan province, said, "I hope we get better meals."

Representatives of Henan's migrant workers are showing their skills in cooking, handicrafts and services. The aim is to get companies in Beijing to hire Henan workers.

NPC deputy Qi Jinli is the mayor of Luohe city. He says he's already helped some 20,000 farmers get jobs from the exhibition.

Qi Jinli, NPC deputy of Henan province, said, "We're very worried that a large number of migrant workers in Luohe have returned home waiting for jobs. About a third of them haven't found anything."
