US President Barack Obama has moved to fulfill the defining promise of his campaign, saying all US combat troops will be withdrawn from Iraq by the end of August 2010.

US President Barack Obama has moved to fulfill the defining  promise of his campaign, saying all US combat troops will be withdrawn from Iraq by the end of August 2010.

Obama made the announcement on Friday before US marines and military leaders at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

US President Barack Obama said, "We have acted with careful consideration of events on the ground, with respect for the security agreements between the United States and Iraq, and with a critical recognition that the long-term solution in Iraq must be political not military."
