The Politburo warned that 2009 would be the most difficult for China's economic development so far this century.

Party leader Hu Jintao said that the global financial crisis is not over yet, and that China's economic growth faces great pressure. But he called for a comprehensive analysis of the current situation, and good use of China's own advantages for economic development.

Hu Jintao said China's economic momentum hadn't changed. He said with the central government's quick response in issuing financial and currency policies, China's economic growth is still among the world's leaders. Hu Jintao also pointed to the fast and continuous economic development over the past 30 years that has prepared the nation for any challenge. He said the readjustment and restructuring of the global economy will also bring China new opportunities.

Hu Jintao stressed that efforts should be made to increase domestic demand, change the mode of development, accelerate the strategic readjustment of the economic structure, deepen reforms and improve living standards.
