Shanghai graduates to get $526 if employed by 30

Graduating Students from Shanghai who can find a job before they turn thirty will receive 3,600 yuan, or 526.7 US dollars, the Shanghai-based Jiefang Daily reported.

A young Shanghai graduate, Shen Yun, received this piece of good news together with a letter of encouragement from the residential committee on February 3, 2009.

Shen Yun registered and attended free computer training classes held by the local government. The desperate graduate also plans to attend classes on resume writing and interview preparation in an attempt to find suitable employment.

A career counselor, surnamed Xu, said no matter which method students use to find a job, if they can do so before they turn 30 they will receive the 3,600 yuan compensation.

To help the graduates like Shen Yun to improve their chances in the job hunting market, the local government will also take a series of measures such as recommending job positions, encouraging start-ups, providing technical training opportunities and arranging internships.

The local government will provide help for over 200 graduates in Shanghai and a district even stipulates that there will be at least one career counselor in each community. The beneficiaries will not only include graduating university students but also graduates from other institutions and former graduates from various schools, colleges and universities.
