There were more than 16 and a half million tourist visits in the province over the holiday, up 22 percent from the Spring Festival week last year. Many people were interested in visiting quake-hit areas. They came to commemorate the victims of the earthquake that struck the region last May.

Local operas and new tourist projects also helped revive businesses in the province, with total revenue up 33 percent from the same time last year.
