This is the first Spring Festival since the Sichuan earthquake in May. Our reporter Wang Mangmang visited several families living in emergency housing to find out how they spent New Year's Eve.

The last night of the year of the Rat on the lunar calendar, and people in this community are all celebrating just as people do elsewhere. But it can't be the same.

Most residents here used to live in badly hit Beichuan County. Creating joy in the new year may be a good way to relieve some of their pain.

"It is now seven thirty pm on new year's eve. This is dinner time for almost all Chinese. Let's check out what people are doing in this house."

This family is lucky to have everyone sitting at the dinner table. They are content with just being able to be together.

Reporter: What is your new year wish?

Man: Just to be safe.

Woman: I hope we can all forget the unhappy memories of the earthquake.

This family is watching the national new year gala. Having survived the disaster, the eighty-two year old woman has a simple wish.

Reporter: What is your new year wish?

Woman: I want to live better and better.

And this family is full of joy. But eight months ago, they were heartbroken to have lost a little girl. The mother is now expecting another newborn baby.

Zhang Jing, said, "My father and my husband didn't want to see anyone at that time. So I decided to get pregnant again, so that we could focus on something else and have a new hope. Having a healthy baby is my wish for the new year."

They all have their stories. They all have their losses. But they also have their joy and their hopes.
