Jordan ready to work with new U.S. administration on Mideast issues

AMMAN, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Jordan looks forward to working with the new U.S. administration to solve the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians, King Abdullah II said on Thursday.

The king made the remarks when receiving a telephone call from new U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, during which they discussed developments in the Middle East, according to a statement by the Royal Hashemite Court.

Abdullah said he looked forward to working with the new U.S. administration to launch serious and effective negotiations as soon as possible with the aim of reaching a two-state solution that is the only way to achieve peace and security in the region.

The king also congratulated Clinton on her appointment that was approved by the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.

King Abdullah on Wednesday received a telephone call from U.S. President Barack Obama, during which the two leaders discussed regional developments as well as bilateral relations.

Jordan, one of allies of the U.S. in Middle East, signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994, becoming the second Arab state making peace with the Jewish state.
