With less than a week until his inauguration, US President-elect Barack Obama met with Vice President-elect Joe Biden and Lindsey Graham, a Republican Senator from South Carolina, on Wednesday.

Biden and Graham recently returned from a tour of war zones and global security hotspots. While Obama refused to comment at length about his administration's foreign policy plans, he told reporters he was well aware of the continued threat posed to the US by al-Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden and his network.

Obama said he would speak more on the issue following his inauguration as president. The US is rushing as many as 30-thousand more troops to Afghanistan, seeking to turn the tide in fighting that has seen al-Qaida-linked militants and the Taliban make a comeback after initial defeats in the US-led invasion in 2001.

Both Biden and Graham emphasized the crucial role Pakistan will play in whether the US-led coalition in Afghanistan can be successful.
