Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has met with US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte in Beijing. The meeting was held to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-US diplomatic relations.

Xi Jinping says the continuing development of Sino-US relations is the common wish of peoples in both countries, and many opportunities exist today for such development.

Xi stressed the importance of adhering to the direction of constructive relations, adding that China would like to make joint efforts with the US to enhance dialogue, coordination, and cooperation.

For his part, Negroponte says the US views its relations with China as extremely important. He also assured Xi that the new US administration would continue the development of US-China ties.
