Construction of permanent housing continues in Sichuan for the millions of people made homeless by the earthquake in May last year. Most people should have their new homes completed by the end of this year. In the meantime, many people still living in temporary shelters are facing another drop in temperatures.

The Leigu township resettlement site is the biggest from Beichuan County. Food, padded clothing, and quilts have been distributed to quake survivors living here to help them get through the cold winter.
Zhang Zhongmin and his family have been here for half a year. Everyone has to make do with a lot less space, but there's a camaraderie between the survivors.
Zhang said, "All the survivors in my village live together. It's very lively. Here we work, rest, and join activities together."

Many people in Zhang's village have gone elsewhere to find jobs. But Zhang, who has been running a transportation business for 20 years, chose to stay.
Zhang said, "There's a big need for transportation here. We're building our permanent houses. Lots of trucks are needed to move the building materials."
It's seven and a half months since the massive earthquake. The new houses being built for Beichuan survivors are a source of hope in the winter rain. 40 thousand families should be able to move into their new homes by the end of the year.
