China´s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region celebrates 50th anniversary

South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is celebrating its 50th anniversary. A ceremony was held in the region's capital city, Nanning, on Thursday morning.

Senior official of the Communist Party of China, Zhou Yongkang, led a delegation from the central government to join local officials and residents at the celebration. Zhou praised progress Guangxi has achieved over the past fifty years, and urged the region to continue its development.
Amid the birthday celebrations, Guangxi is remembering its half-a-century of experiences and looking to the future.
Fifty years ago, the Chinese central government decided to establish Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region part of a practice to allow regional ethnic autonomy.
