Special Report:   Terror attacks in Mumbai

With the last of the bodies removed from the bullet and grenade-scarred Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai, the investigation into one of the most deadly attacks in the country's history is well underway.

Security forces finally declared Mumbai's landmark Taj Mahal hotel cleared two days after they killed the last three militants holed up inside.

On Sunday, senior officials of Maharashtra state surveyed the scene inside Taj Mahal hotel, where traces of days of gunfire and explosions were all around.

The Indian government has come under criticism for its reaction to the attacks. Many analysts describe it as slow and confused. The government is also under fire for allowing ten gunmen to paralyze the city for nearly three days.

Indian Home Minister Shivarj Patil resigned in the wake of the attacks, becoming the first political casualty in last week's attacks.

New home minister Palaniappan Chidambaram on Monday expressed confidence the country would triumph against such violence because India is a secular, tolerant and open society.

The Indian army had already cleared other sites, including the five-star Oberoi hotel and the Jewish outreach center, Nariman House.

On Monday, dozens of people gathered to mourn the dead from the center.

This boy's parents were among the six hostages killed in Nariman House in one of the most brazen attacks in the Indian history.
