2 Canadians injured, 6 missing in Mumbai terror attacks

OTTAWA, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Two Canadian were injured and six are still missing Thursday, more than a day after gunmen staged a series of deadly attacks across India's financial capital of Mumbai.

Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon confirmed that at least two Canadian are among the more than 300 people injured in the assaults, which have left at least 119 others dead.

Six Canadian remain unaccounted for, and possibly are still inside the Trident-Oberoi Hotel, one of two luxury hotels that were among 10 sites targeted in co-ordinated gun and grenade strikes beginning late Wednesday.

But it remains unclear whether they are being held hostage or are hiding somewhere, Cannon said.

Officials said the Canadian government has set up an internal crisis team to help locate or rescue the missing.

India's Deputy Home Secretary Bitin Srimali told reporters Thursday that among the foreigners held captive were Americans, Britons, Italians, Swedes, Canadian, Yemenis, New Zealanders, Spaniards, Turks, a Singaporean and Israelis.

Among the dead were at least one Australian, a Japanese and a British national.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper condemned the attacks in Mumbai Thursday saying the government is working closely with Indian authorities to track down any Canadian and their families affected by the attacks.

Ottawa is also advising Canadian to avoid all non-essential travel to Mumbai until the situation stabilizes.
