Israeli FM congratulates Obama on his triumph

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni also congratulated Barack Obama on his victory.

Livni said the US and Israel shared values and interests and would work together to enhance those ties.

Tzipi Livni, Israeli Foreign Minister, said, "And we believe the relationship between Israel and the United States, which is based on understanding the same values and the same interests in the region, now as we face a new administration and new government, this is part of the Israeli policy to enhance these ties and to base this relationship on these values and interests."

Livni faces elections in Israel on February 10th. Polls on Monday showed Livni's Kadima Party and Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party running neck and neck.

Livni became Kadima's head in a primary election forced by the corruption allegations against Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

Elections were called last month after she failed to keep the current coalition government intact.
