Obama´s Kenyan family ready to celebrate

As the US presidential election nears the relatives of Barack Obama in Kenya are already preparing to celebrate.

Police have been posted outside the family's home in Kogelo, a village of dirt roads, tin-roofed huts and maize fields in western Kenya.

Obama's presidential bid has sparked huge excitement in this rural area. And the very real possibility of Obama becoming the first-ever black president in the United States is on everybody's mind.

A victory for Obama would highlight a meteoric rise for the 47-year-old politician. Especially since he was little known nationally before being elected senator in Illinois, four years ago.

Malik Obama, Half Brother of Barack Obama, said, "Everybody is extremely happy and excited and looking forward to celebrating the day after the elections."

Residents in Nairobi are also looking forward to celebrating Tuesday's election.

Lillian Aluoch, Nairobi Resident, said, "We hope that Obama wins give hope to all women of Africa."

Meanwhile, Barack Obama announced on Monday that his beloved grandmother had passed away just one day before the US election.

Madelyn Dunham died peacefully on Sunday night after a battle with cancer at the age of 86.

Obama learned of her death on Monday morning while campaigning in Florida. His family said a private ceremony would be held at a later date.
