Special Report: U.S.Presidential Election 2008In Kenya police have increased security at the home of Sarah Obama, the grandmother of U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barak Obama. Meanwhile, journalists were turned away on Friday.
The road to the western Kenya village of Kogelo is under reconstruction. But this should not be misinterpreted as a warm welcome for hundreds of local and foreign media. They have been heading for the area to position themselves to report on Obama's Kenyan relatives just days before the U.S presidential elections.
Local media says family does not want media crowding around their home.
A handful of journalists tried to catch a glimpse of 85-year-old 'Mama Obama' at her front gate on Friday but were turned away.
Local resident said "It is surprising that most of the journalists are going to Mama Sara, the Grandma of Obama and we here thinking that this is so much causing her a lot of inconvenience because, an old mum who could not manage everyday she has got ten journalists."
Since Obama made his bid for the U.S. presidency, 'Mama Obama' has been interviewed and filmed at her home. Especially by journalists reporting on Obama's Kenyan roots and his African family's hopes for his win.
