Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has met with his Indian counterpart, Pranab Mukherjee, in New Delhi.

Lavrov says India is playing an important role in the world, and it's only natural for the country to join such international organizations as the G8.

The two ministers also signed a protocol on holding regular consultations on foreign affairs in the next two years. On Monday, Lavrov also met with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
