Hundreds of disabled people have performed a ball game based on Taichi to support the Beijing Paralympics.

Hundreds of disabled people have performed a ball game based  on Taichi to support the Beijing Paralympics.

Taichi ball is not easy. But more than two hundred Chinese adults and children with disabilities performed it on Wednesday near the Bird's Nest in Beijing to show their support for the Paralympics.

Busy directing the exercise, former polio patient Wo Weimin, said the disability groups often take part in activities like these to attract more attention from the society.

Wo Weimin,Taichi Ball Show Coach,said,"Such activities during the Paralympics can help our disability groups, be it physical or mental disabilities, to gather in Beijing, to enjoy the games. That makes us very happy, very excited."

Among the performers, about 40 of the children were from other parts of China. For many, it was their first time in the capital. They are on a company-sponsored trip to see the Paralympics Games.

Xu Jing, a deaf taichi ball performer from the eastern province of Anhui, spoke through sign language to say the group exercise has given him greater confidence.

Taichi ball is an adaptation of the Chinese martial art that emphasizes coordination of different movements and concentration of the mind.

As it helps improve balance and concentration, it is often used for rehabilitating people with disabilities in China.
