Chinese Paralympic swimmers look to create miracles at magic Water Cube

BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- The magic "Water Cube" could witness a rise of another multi-gold medallist at the Beijing Paralympic Games, only three weeks after Michael Phelps won a historical eight gold medals at the Olympics.

But this time, it might be a Chinese.

Wang Xiaofu, who won three gold medals at the Athens Paralympics four years ago, will compete in seven individual events at S 8 class and two relay races.

"I'm in good shape now and have. Nine events in a whole will be a great test for my physical limit, but I will try my best to raise our national flag as many times as I could," the 20-year-old said.

Beijing's futuristic bubbed-shaped aquatic venue, the dubbed "Water Cube", engendered 22 new world records at last month's Olympic Games.

Wang and his teammates cannot wait to create new miracles in the magic pool.

"Once I jumped into the poor, I just felt I'm full of strength. I'm ready for the tests now," said 19-year-old Guo Zhi, who will compete in six individual events of S 9 class and one relay race.

Beijing Paralympic swimming competitions have attracted 560 athletes in 81 men's and 59 women's events. The nine-day contest will start on Sept. 7 when the preliminary session was held in the morning and finals in the evening.
