Beijing has recruited 44,000 game-time volunteers to provide services at the venues of the Paralympic Games.

Beijing has recruited 44,000 game-time volunteers to provide services at the venues of the Paralympic Games.

Officials in charge of the Games' organization say the volunteers are from 27 countries and regions, and most of them worked at the Beijing Olympic Games.

All of them received training over the past three years, especially on how to serve the disabled. More than 900,000 people submitted applications to volunteer for the Paralympics.

Officials say 400,000 "city volunteers" will continue to offer services including translation and first aid around the capital during the Paralympics, as they did during the Olympics.
