Beijing Times reported on Wednesday that about 100 checkpoints will be stationed on expressways leading to the city, at entrances to the urban areas, and main roads in downtown area.

Police officers at these checkpoints will take on the responsibility of confiscating prohibited items and checking for potential criminals. Police officers will be well equipped with both state-of-the-art equipment and explosive detection dogs to facilitate security check work, the newspaper added.

Local police force at some checkpoints such as in Tongzhou District in east Beijing has already started checking vehicles entering the city, the newspaper said.

The police authorities are advising drivers coming into Beijing to bring their ID cards, driver's licenses and other necessary documents. Drivers are also being warned not to carry prohibited articles, such as fireworks, into the capital.
