Special Report: Mainland tourists visit TaiwanTaiwan's beautiful landscapes make it one of Asia's must-see destinations. Here's a brief look at some of the island's famous tourist sites.
Ali Mountain |
Mount Ali, or Alishan, is considered a major landmark associated with Taiwan.
Alishan rises over 2600 meters high in Chiayi County. It's famous for its wilderness, waterfalls, rich aboriginal culture, and production of high altitude tea and wasabi.
The "sea of clouds" and the cherry blossoms help create te mountain's reputation for magnificent scenery.
Forest trains provide travelers a unique way to enjoy the spectacular landscape. The train climbs from 30 meters to over 2000 meters above sea level along the 72-kilometer track. The steep gradient is rarely seen elsewhere.
Beautiful coastal scenes are also part of Taiwan's great natural assets.
The island's unique environment produces hot springs with crystal-clear water. Spas and resorts put these hot springs to good use.
Over a hundred hot springs have been discovered on the island. One of the most famous is Zuban, located in southeastern Taiwan. The water there is clean enough to drink.
In addition, mud springs, known for their skin care properties, are especially popular with female visitors.
The Taroko Gorge is another must-see.
The gorge and its environs are well known for their abundant marble resources, leading to its nickname, "The Marble Gorge."
The park offers travelers a wildlife adventure for expert climbers or a leisurely stroll for the less hardy among its ferny walls, mossy tress and echoing rivers.
Taiwan's imposing mountains, scenic coastlines and therapeutic hot springs provide a rewarding experience for tourists in search of relaxation.
