Chinese Vice Premier meets US lawmakers

Vice Premier Wang Qishan has met with leading US senators and members of the House of Representatives in Washington DC.

Wang held separate talks with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnel, and Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee Max Baucus as well as several House members.

Wang also attended a working breakfast with US Secretary of Treasury Henry Paulson and exchanged views with Paulson and lawmakers. During the meetings, the two sides stressed the need to strengthen exchanges and communications and improve mutual understanding.

Wang said both sides should work to maintain the mutually beneficial Sino-US trade and economic relationship and avoid resorting to solutions such as trade and investment protectionism and politicizing trade and economic issues.
