Charity holds photo show on China quake rescue in Bangkok

BANGKOK, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A Thai policeman saluted to a photo showing Chinese army soldiers rescuing victims of the May 12earthquake that hit Sichuan Province in West China, while many other viewers had tears in their eyes when watching the photo exhibition on the quake and rescue work Tuesday in Bangkok.

The photo exhibition, themed "Brotherhood", was organized by one of Thailand's largest civilian charities -- Poh Teck Tung Foundation and presented hundreds of pictures taken at quake-hit sites showing how people suffered from the earthquake and the rescue and relief operation.

The pictures have been provided by the Photographers' Association of Chengdu City, the provincial capital of Sichuan, where an 8-magnitude earthquake on May 12 has destroyed thousands of buildings and claimed some 70,000 lives.

Chairman of the Foundation, Hu Yulin, who is also a famous businessman and a leader of Chinese-immigrant community in Thailand, said he was impressed by how the Chinese people, government, military and peoples around the world including overseas Chinese, have jointly contributed their efforts and made it a memorable example of coordinated disaster relief.

Poh Teck Tung Foundation, established by Chinese immigrants almost a century ago and most known among Thai public for its volunteer ambulance service when any disaster or accident occurs, has donated 4.6 million Thai baht (some 150,000 U.S. dollars) to Chinese earthquake victims.
