There has been talk recently that tourism in Taiwan might be opening to mainland residents this July. Taiwan transport authorities responded to the news by raising a series of proposals to ensure the quality of visits to the island by mainland tourists.
The proposals ranged from specially-designed travel packages, purchasing guarantees on various commodities and effective handling of complaints. Express railways, inter-city subways, passenger coaches and short-distance flights will all be used as major means of transportation. Travellers are also able to choose three entry and exit routes to balance tourism capacity across the island.
Taiwan tourism authorities are planning to improve environmental conditions and service quality at major scenic areas. A minimum daily charge of 80 US dollars per person is also being imposed on travel agencies to avoid unfair price discrimination.
