Wu Bangguo has inspected several hard-hit areas since his arrival on Monday. He praised the relief work as prompt and effective and stressed that epidemic prevention is now a priority. He urged the prevention of secondary disasters, saying barrier lakes and damaged reservoirs and dams should be kept under very close inspection.

Wu demanded more efforts to resettle survivors. And he insisted that management of relief materials must be strengthened, keeping information transparent.

Meanwhile top political advisor Jia Qinglin arrived in Sichuan this (Thursday) afternoon. He expressed sympathy for the people affected by the earthquake. Jia is accompanied by leaders of the non-communist parties and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce.
