Al-Maliki arrived in the Swedish capital Stockholm amid tight security on Wednesday. Maliki is expected to push for debt relief. He is likely to demand some nations cancel as much as 67 billion US dollars in debt and war compensation dating back to Saddam Hussein's era. Most of these debts were owed to Arab neighbors such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.
Iraq and US officials are set to meet and discuss the recent security situation in Iraq. The meeting could pressure Iraqi leaders to make reconciliation among the country's Sunni Arabs, Shiites and Kurds.
