Another Russian plane sends humanitarian aid to quake-hit China

MOSCOW, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Another Russian Emergencies Ministry plane with humanitarian aid flew to quake-hit China on Saturday evening, the ministry's information department said.

The plane took off at 7:32 p.m. Moscow time (1532 GMT).

"Diesel power generators and food such as sugar, canned meat and rice will be delivered to the Chinese affected population. The total weight of the cargo is 32.5 tons," the ministry said.

Three planes of the ministry, one of which arrived in China on Saturday morning, has delivered 90 tons of humanitarian aid to the quake-hit areas. A group of Russian rescuers have started working right after their arrival on Friday.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has sent a message of solace to Chinese President Hu Jintao over the disastrous earthquake.

More than 50,000 people are feared dead in Sichuan province alone after Monday's 7.8-magnitude earthquake, the rescue headquarters of the State Council of China said Thursday.

The death toll from the earthquake has risen to 28,881 nationwide as of 2 p.m. Saturday, while 198,347 people were injured, according to the Information Office of the State Council.
