Even before the new leader has been sworn into office, the Kuomintang Party convened a meeting this week, on preparatory works for its campaign pledges on closer cross-strait economic ties. |
The discussions held on Tuesday by Chiang Ping-Kun, vice chairman of Kuomintang, covered direct cross-strait transportation links, visits for the Chinese mainland tourists to the island, and conversion of RMB to NT ("New Taiwan") dollars in Taiwan.
Chiang instructed related parties to complete formulation of draft rules of realizing those pledges before Ma Ying Jeou is sworn into office on May 20th. He will visit the mainland in late April to discuss the key issues with Chinese mainland officials.
The Kuomintang says, it plans to lower the cash deposit of 200,000 NT dollars required for mainland tourists. It's now soliciting opinions from industry committees on the issue.
