International politicians discuss Mideast peace process

The Middle East peace process has long been a focus for much of the world. Diplomats and politicians are stepping up their efforts to push forward the peace process.

The UN Security Council debated pressing issues relating to the Middle East on Tuesday.
Breaking with tradition UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, attended the session.
He said he was deeply concerned about the renewed violence in Gaza and southern Israel.
The UN chief added that the peace process is too important to be overwhelmed by violence.
Ban Ki-moon urged Israel and Palestinian Authority to move forward towards peace.
Meanwhile, officials from the European Parliament Middle East working group were discussing the Middle East peace process in Brussels.
Former British Prime Minister and Middle East Quartet envoy, Tony Blair, called for a new strategy for the Gaza Strip.

Blair added that actions must be taken to get more goods and food into Gaza to ease the humanitarian crisis there.
Norway's Foreign Minister, Jonas Gahr Store, also attended the discussion.
Jonas Gahr Store, Norway's Foreign Minister, said, "Well, we are all engaged now in the follow-up of this Annapolis process, although there are no results which are tangible now. The process in itself is important, we have to support it."
Over in Russia President Vladimir Putin and visiting Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak also discussed the Middle East issue.
Putin suggested that progress was needed before Russia could firm up plans for a Middle East peace conference that it hopes to host later this year.
