Iran's new envoy to the EU has called on the body to take a new approach to resolve the international standoff over its nuclear program rather than backing new sanctions.

Ambassador Ali Asghar Kaji says efforts by the EU and others to get fresh sanctions approved by the UN Security Council are unjustified and the issues should not be resolved by a new resolution against his country.
Ali Asghar Kaji, Iranian Ambassador to the EU, said, "Dr. El Baradei in his latest report announced that all outstanding issues have been settled between Iran and the IAEA. When he says so it means that there are no more outstanding issues and there is nothing to be concerned about. Of course these matters should not be resolved by issuing a new resolution against Iran. We believe that measures must be taken to correct and review polices in order to take a new approach in dealing with Iran. We believe that, and it has been proven to the world community that Iran had no diversion from its peaceful nuclear efforts. Whatever we have done in the past and whatever we are doing in the present is within the framework of a non-proliferation treaty."
