The US presidential nominating contests have gone into overdrive on "Super Tuesday." The day is almost a national primary. The Democrats and Republicans are holding contests in a total of 24 states. At stake are about half the delegates who will choose a nominee at party conventions in August and September.
Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama voted in his hometown of Chicago.

Despite polls showing him virtually eliminating Hillary Clinton's lead in national polls and in some key states, Obama sought to lower expectations.
He said "I still think that Senator Clinton is the favorite. She had 20 to 30 point leads in many of these states."
Clinton voted in New York with her husband and daughter.
Like her opponent, she also sought to downplay expectations, saying the stakes are huge.
On the Republican side, John MaCain dug in for a long day of campaigning on Tuesday challenged by his rival Mitt Romney.
"We're going to win New York and we're going to win New York in the general election and I'm going to carry this state of New York and we are going to campaign." John said.
Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney logged more than five thousand miles in a coast-to-coast dash as he tried to block McCain from clinching the nomination.
Romney cast his ballot Tuesday afternoon in Massachusetts.
