U.S. Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards announced on Wednesday to quit his bid for the White House, becoming the first major player to drop out of the race.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani officially ended his bid for the White House on Wednesday and endorsed Arizona Senator John McCain for the Republican nomination.
