The US released a video of the weekend incident which included a recording of what it says was the exchange between the two sides.

Iran says the footage is fake and has accused Washington of trying to stir up tension in the region. Iran's Revolutionary Guards say the images were archive pictures.

Iranian State Television Anchor, said, "An official of Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps says the US released video of a recent incident between Iranian patrol boats and the US navy ships is archive footage and the audio is fake."

On Tuesday, the Pentagon released a video-and-audio tape, saying the footage confirms its claim Iranian speedboats swarmed US warships in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday and radioed a threat to blow them up.

On Monday, the Pentagon said five Iranian boats had harassed and threatened three US Navy warships in international waters in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Bush administration immediately warned Iran to refrain from taking provocative action that could lead to a dangerous incident in the future.

But Iran responded by saying the incident is something normal, and it's been resolved.
