Official: Bhutto dies from head wound by car´s lever

BEIJING, Dec. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Benair Bhutto had died from a head wound she sustained when she smashed against the sunroof's lever as she tried to shelter inside the car, Pakistan's Interior Ministry spokesman said Friday.

Brig. Javed Iabal Cheema said Bhutto was ducking down trying to shelter in the car when suicide bomber ignited explosives near her motorcade.

She was torn by the force of the shock wave of the explosion and one of the lever of the sunroof hit her near her right ear and caused fracture in her skull.

Cheema said that none of the shots before the explosion hit Bhutto and there was no shrapnel found in her body.

Cheema also said "Benazir has been on the hit-list of al-Qa'eda and now there is every possibility that al-Qa'eda is behind this tragic attack to undermine the security of Pakistan."

The spokesman later also said an al-Qa'eda phone call was intercepted after Bhutto was killed and there was "irrefutable evidence" the group was trying to undermine the country.
