A symposium for the newly elected Communist Party of China Central Committee members and alternate members has started. The aim is to strengthen the "self-construction" of the CPC Central Committee.
In his opening remarks, Hu Jintao, the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, urged new members to carry out the Party's policies set at its 17th National Congress.
Hu Jintao said the Central Committee plays a very important role in the Party and the country and must have a solid leadership. He also says the "solemn responsibility" of all Central Committee members and alternate members is to lead the Chinese people on a development path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Xi Jinping, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the opening ceremony. He encouraged members to continue studying the spirit of the 17th National Congress including the "Scientific Outlook on Development".
