Vice Premier: China has no intention of seeking trade surplus with US

The third China-US Strategic Economic Dialogue is underway in Beijing.
During the meeting, Vice Premier Wu Yi stressed the importance of sound trade ties and pointed out that bills related to China currently being debated by the US Congress may jeopardize trade and two-way relations.
Vice Premier Wu Yi and US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson co-chaired the meeting. In her opening remark, Vice Premier Wu said the US should not blame China for the structural problems in its economy.
Wu Yi said, "We are strongly opposing the attempts to politicize trade issues. I am particularly concerned by the 50 or so protectionist, China-related bills in the US Congress. I need to be straight about this, if these bills are adopted, they will severely undermine bilateral business ties."
Wu added that China has no intention of seeking a large trade surplus with the US. She went on to say that addressing the issue requires the concerted efforts of both sides.
