Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says Israel is not bound by the December 2008 target for a peace agreement that was set at last week's U.S.-hosted Mideast summit.
Olmert says the summit with Arab leaders and US President George W. Bush was "positive," and says it will reinvigorate peace talks in the area.
Olmert told his cabinet he hopes negotiations with the Palestinians will be finished before the end of 2008, but could not commit to a firm timetable on a peace deal.
He says progress will depend on the Palestinians' ability to rein in militants.
