Musharraf says farewell to military

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, has begun farewell visits to military headquarters in Rawalpindi, just before standing down as military chief.

He was greeted by a guard of honor composed of service personnel from the army, navy and air force. Musharraf also met with senior commanders of the three services.

Aides to Musharraf say he will resign as the chief of Pakistan's army on Wednesday and take an oath as a civilian president on Thursday.

Vice Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani, will take over command of the armed forces Wednesday.
