Special Report:   Chang'e I -Journey to the Moon

Space agencies, analysts and experts in the US, Japan and Russia have welcomed the success of the lunar project.

A NASA Public Affairs Official said the project was significant and scientists around the globe will be interested in the new data Chang'e I gathers from the moon. He said NASA hopes the probe's research will go smoothly and it is very possible that China and US may cooperate in exploring the moon.

Japanese space technology analyst Nobuo Nakatomi said the success of the project has significantly enhanced China's ability to explore space. The development of China's space industry will reinforce progress in Chinese technology and promote the development of related industries.

That was Russian cosmonaut Professor Grechiko, who had taken part in the world's first launch of an artificial satellite, had spent nearly 135 days in space.

Pro. Georgi Grechiko, chief researcher of Russian Academy of Science, said, "The launch of Chang'e One is not only a Chinese project, but also a world one. Because probing the universe is a mission for people globally.

Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space. It was not only an achievement for Russians, but also for all human beings. And this time, the Chinese cosmonauts have pushed the aeronautics industry forward. The US took pictures of the Moon in the past. But today, the pictures that China has taken of the Moon are three-dimensional pictures. It's a great achievement for China. I believe these pictures will benefit the world and benefit research."
