French president speaks highly of Xi´an visit

Earlier on Sunday, President Sarkozy visited Xi'an, the capital of northwest China's Shaanxi province. China's Culture Minister, Sun Jiazheng, greeted Sarkozy at the airport.

They then went directly to see the terracotta army of China's first emperor. Sarkozy waved at the visitors, and shook hands with many of them.

The French president was warmly welcomed everywhere. Some Chinese even greeted him in French. Sarkozy also accepted as a gift a duplicate copper cart presented to him by the staff at the historical site. On Sunday afternoon, Sarkozy also visited the grave of a Han Dynasty emperor. The French president spoke highly of his Xi'an visit.

Sarkozy said, "I'm visiting Xi'an because I know it is the center of Chinese culture. It shows everything in traditional ways. We are very impressed."
