China encourage Iran to continue cooperation with IAEA and EU

Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi says on Tuesday that China supports a peaceful solution to Iran's nuclear issue through diplomatic negotiations during his meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

China has encouraged Iran to continue dialogues and cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and the European Union.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao made the remarks regarding Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi's visit to Tehran on Tuesday.

Liu Jianchao, Spokesman, Chinese Foreign Ministry, said, "Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said that China believes Iran deserves the right to make peaceful use of nuclear power. He praised Iran's repeated position of not seeking to develop nuclear weapons and the open cooperation with IAEA. Yang also said China sticks to the policy of maintaining the international nuclear non-proliferation system. China supports the peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic talks and hopes that Iran strengthens its cooperation with the IAEA and makes progress at EU talks. China also hopes all parties show flexibility and make their due efforts to the peaceful resolution of the issue."
