Special Report: Giant PandaGiant panda twins born in Japan have arrived in Sichuan Province. They'll take up residence at the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base in the capital, Chengdu.
Locals planned a welcoming ceremony for the twins on Saturday. The pandas' living quarters are furnished with an air-conditioner, a 24-hour monitoring system and some outdoor amusement facilities. To help the twins adapt to their new environment, staff are providing several diets supplemented by an endless supply of apples and bamboo shoots.
China started a panda research cooperation project with Japan 13 years ago, producing nine cubs, seven of which survived.
