Launch of Chang´e One spurs interest in moon

Special Report: Chang'e I -Journey to the MoonThe launch of the Chang'e One lunar orbiter is stirring up public interest in moon and space exploration. Thousands of people gathered near the Xichang launch site to see the Chang'e One lift-off, while others admired the moon in their own special ways.
The crowds came from across China to watch the historic launch at Xichang. Cheers went up as the rocket carrying Chang'e One disappeared into the clouds.
Miss Hu said, "I am very happy. I saw it here live at the scene. I feel excited."
Mr. Hu said, "I feel China's satellite technology is getting better and better. I feel proud of my own country."
The launch also caught the attention of many in Hong Kong. Pedestrians paused in front of the giant screen at Times Square to share the moment of excitement.
Astronomy fans in the southern city of Guangzhou have formed an interest group to watch the moon. Participants range from eight years old to 80.
A Guangzhou resident said, "I saw it, I saw it! It's like a basketball and there are a lot of pits on it."
Enthusiasm starts young. A kindergarten teacher in the northern city of Handan explained the moon and the Chang'e lunar orbiter with models. For these kids, all systems are go.
