The 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China concluded on Sunday. The Congress elected a new CPC Central Committee and Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. It also passed resolutions on the report by the 16th Party Central Committee, the work report of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and an amendment to the CPC constitution.
The party congress was held at a crucial time of China's reform and development. It called on all CPC members and Chinese people from all ethnic groups to achieve new victories in the construction of a moderately prosperous society and write new chapters in improving people's lives, by holding the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, closely uniting around the CPC central committee and carefully learning and implementing the essence of the congress.
Sitting in the front row on the stage were the members of the standing committee of the 17th National Congress of the CPC Presidium: Hu Jintao, Jiang Zemin, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Wu Guanzheng, Li Changchun, Luo Gan, Wang Lequan, Wang Zhaoguo, Hui Liangyu, Liu Qi, Liu Yunshan, Wu Yi, Zhang Lichang, Zhang Dejiang, Zhou Yongkang, Yu Zhengsheng, He Guoqiang, Guo Boxiong, Cao Gangchuan, Zeng Peiyan, Wang Gang, Li Peng, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan, Song Ping, Wei Jianxing, Li Lanqing, Xu Caihou, He Yong and Wang Zhongyu.

The closing ceremony started at 9 o'clock in the morning. Hu Jintao presided over the meeting.
Hu Jintao said, " The meeting is now open. Today we have four items on the agenda. Firstly, to elect the members and alternate members of the 17th Central Committee, and the members of a new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. Secondly, to approve the draft resolution on the report of the 16th National Congress. Thirdly, to approve the draft resolution on the work report of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. And fourthly, to approve the draft resolution on the amendment to the Constitution of the CPC. More than half of delegates who should take part in the today's meeting are present, satisfying the rules of the Congress. Now let's begin the first item on the agenda: to elect members and alternate members of the 17th Party Central Committee, and members of a new Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. "
The meeting first approved a list of 2 chief scrutineers and 36 scrutineers for the votes.
Under their supervision, 2,235 delegates and specially invited guests elected the 204 members and 167 alternate members of the 17th CPC Central Committee. They also elected 127 members of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
Hu Jintao announced that new central committee and discipline commission had been elected.
