Special Report: 17th CPC National CongressIn his keynote speech at the opening of the 17th CPC National Congress, Hu Jintao stressed the need to enhance Chinese culture as the country's "soft power". On Friday, delegates shared views on this topic in Beijing.
Delegates agree with Hu upon the need to enhance culture as part of China's soft power to guarantee people's basic cultural rights and interests.
They expressed personal understanding on how to promote China's cultural industry for its people, and towards the rest of the world.
Delegate Li Hua said "First, a public cultural service system should be established. The system should serve society as a whole, and community cultural construction is a significant part of that."
Delegate Li Lu said "What's the basis for a thriving Chinese culture? It should be "Education". For education is the basic way in which people can receive culture. It's also an effective carrier of tradition."
Delegate Li Chunyan said "To publicize cultural activity, we could use advanced media technology, such as the Internet and cell phones."
Delegates from the People's Liberation Army also discussed Hu Jintao's speech. They evaluated the report as the Party's political statement and a guideline for the future.
The delegates believe that the PLA must carefully study the military buildup in this new era, and build a military force that conforms to the interests of the country's security and development. Both wealth and defense are necessary for the country's development.
They praised the call for a revolution in military affairs with Chinese characteristics, ensuring military preparedness, and improved military capacity to respond to security threats.
The delegates said the army is determined to safeguard China's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity and help maintain world peace.
